A Colombian's Journey Through the Pearls of the Mediterranean

I was eager to explore beyond Cairo and delve into the rich history of Alexandria. This day trip offered by Sphinx Tours exceeded my expectations, providing a comprehensive glimpse into the city's multicultural past and present. The early morning start was well worth it. Our guide picked us up promptly at 7 AM, and the comfortable, air-conditioned ride to Alexandria allowed us to rest and prepare for the day ahead. Despite the long journey, our guide kept us engaged with interesting facts about Egypt and Alexandria. Upon arriving in Alexandria, we were immediately transported back in time at the Roman Theater. The well-preserved marble seats and mosaic flooring painted a vivid picture of ancient Roman life in Egypt. It was fascinating to imagine the performances and gatherings that once took place in this space. The Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa were a highlight of the tour. Descending into the underground tombs felt like entering another world. The blend of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artistic styles in the funerary art was captivating, and our guide's explanations brought the symbols and rituals to life. While we couldn't enter the Alexandria Library due to our Friday visit, even viewing this modern architectural marvel from the outside was impressive. It stands as a powerful symbol of the city's intellectual heritage and its vision for the future. The Qaitbay Citadel offered breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and a glimpse into medieval Islamic architecture. Standing on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was a powerful moment. Our final stop at the El Mursi Abu Elabas Mosque provided insight into Alexandria's Islamic heritage. The mosque's beautiful architecture and serene atmosphere were a fitting end to our cultural exploration. Throughout the day, our guide's knowledge and passion for Alexandria's history made each site come alive. They skillfully managed our time, ensuring we saw all the highlights without feeling rushed. The return journey to Cairo was comfortable, giving us time to reflect on the day's experiences. Arriving back at our hotel around 7 PM, we felt tired but deeply satisfied with our Alexandria adventure. For this Colombian traveler, the tour offered a perfect blend of ancient history, diverse cultures, and modern Egypt. It was a day well spent, broadening my understanding of this fascinating country beyond the pyramids. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Egypt who wants to explore the lesser-known but equally captivating city of Alexandria.

Fun Day Trip to Alexandria

I had a great day on this tour to Alexandria. The guide picked me up early at 7:00 am from my Cairo hotel. We drove for about 3 hours to Alexandria. First, we saw the Roman Theater. It's an old outdoor theater with marble seats. It could hold 800 people! There were also pretty mosaic floors and gardens nearby. Next, we went to the Catacomb of Kom El-Shoqafa. It's like an underground tomb with three levels. There's a special room where families used to eat meals for the dead. I saw interesting statues of Egyptian gods wearing Roman clothes. The Alexandria Library was amazing. It's big and modern, with lots of books. We also visited Qaitbay Citadel and El Mursi Abu Elabas. These are old, beautiful buildings by the sea. The guide was friendly and told us many interesting things. We got back to Cairo around 7:00 pm. I was tired but happy. Remember, the library is closed on Fridays, but you can still take pictures outside. This tour is great if you want to see more of Egypt beyond Cairo. Alexandria has a different feel, with its history by the sea. I learned a lot and had fun.

A Day in Alexandria: History and Culture by the Sea

Hola amigos! We, Carlos and Maria from España, want to tell you about our fantastic day trip to Alexandria. What an adventure! Early start, 7 AM - muy temprano! Long drive from Cairo, but our guide made it interesting. We arrived in Alexandria at 10 AM, ready to explore. First stop: Roman Theater. Increíble! We felt like we were back in ancient times. The marble seats and mosaics were beautiful. Maria loved imagining the performances that happened here. Next, the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa. A bit spooky, but fascinating! Three levels of tombs and strange statues. The mix of Egyptian and Roman styles was very intriguing. Alexandria Library - qué impresionante! Modern architecture, so different from old sites. Sadly, it was closed (our trip was on Friday), but even from outside, it's amazing. Qaitbay Citadel was a highlight. Right by the sea, so picturesque! We took many photos. El Mursi Abu Elabas mosque was beautiful too. Different from churches in Spain, but we appreciated the artistry. Long day, but worth it! Back to Cairo around 7 PM, tired but happy. Our guide was knowledgeable and spoke good English. We learned so much about Egyptian history. Advice for Spanish friends: wear comfortable shoes, and be ready for a busy day! Overall, we loved seeing this historic city by the sea. Very different from Cairo. If you have time in Egypt, definitely worth the trip! Hasta luego from Carlos and Maria!
