About this tour

The tour starts at 8:00 am with pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza by a Sphinx Tours guide to start your full day tour visiting the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. It displays the largest and most precious collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts in the world, exhibiting over 250,000 genuine items dating back as far as 5,000 years. This includes an exclusive exhibit dedicated to Tutankhamun – a collection of treasures, gold, and jewelry buried for over 3,500 years in his tomb before discovery in 1920.

Then visit The Citadel of Salah El-din in Cairo, majestically perched on Cairo’s highest point, this medieval fortress was built by Salah El-Din (Saladin) between 1176-1183 CE to protect the city from Crusaders and then inside you will visit the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha, the crown jewel of the Citadel, this Ottoman-style mosque was built between 1830-1848 by Muhammad Ali Pasha, the founder of modern Egypt.

Then on to Old Cairo, also known as Coptic Christian Cairo. This area contains locations visited by the Holy Family and retains great spiritual significance. Although their stay was brief, the Governor sought to kill the infant Jesus, enraged by toppling idols in his path. They took shelter in a cave above where the Church of Abu Serga (St. Sergius) now stands. This whole district draws Christian pilgrims from around the world. You will also be able to visit and enter the Church of Abu Sergah, the Hanging Church, St. Barbara, and Ben Ezra Synagogue – the old Jewish synagogue.

A Journey Through Time: Egypt's Rich History Unveiled

As a Colombian traveler, I was captivated by the depth and breadth of history presented in this tour. From the moment our guide picked us up at the hotel, we were transported into a world of ancient wonders and spiritual significance. The Egyptian Museum of Antiquities was a treasure trove of artifacts that left me in awe. The sheer number of items on display was overwhelming, but our knowledgeable guide helped us navigate through the most important pieces. The highlight was undoubtedly the Tutankhamun exhibit - seeing the golden mask and burial treasures up close was a truly unforgettable experience. The Citadel of Salah El-din and the Alabaster Mosque provided a stark contrast to the ancient Egyptian relics. The Islamic architecture and the panoramic views of Cairo from the citadel were breathtaking. It was fascinating to see how different cultures and religions have shaped Egypt's history. Old Cairo, with its Coptic Christian heritage, added yet another layer to our historical journey. Walking through the narrow streets and visiting the ancient churches felt like stepping back in time. The Church of Abu Serga, built over the cave where the Holy Family supposedly sought refuge, was particularly moving. As a Christian, I found this part of the tour deeply meaningful. The inclusion of the Ben Ezra Synagogue rounded out our exploration of Egypt's diverse religious landscape. It was eye-opening to see how these different faiths have coexisted in this ancient city for centuries. Our guide's expertise and passion for Egyptian history brought each site to life, making the tour both educational and entertaining. The early start and full day of exploration were well worth it, as we covered so much ground without feeling rushed. For anyone interested in history, religion, or culture, this tour is an absolute must. It offers a comprehensive look at Egypt's rich past and left me with a deep appreciation for this incredible country. As a Colombian, I felt welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed this immersive experience in a land so different from my own.

A Journey Through Egypt's Rich History and Culture

What an incredible day exploring Cairo's treasures! Our tour began promptly at 8:00 am when our knowledgeable Sphinx Tours guide picked us up from our hotel. Our first stop was the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, and it was mind-blowing. The sheer number of ancient artifacts - over 250,000! - was astounding. The highlight was definitely the Tutankhamun exhibit. Seeing those 3,500-year-old treasures up close was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Next, we visited the Citadel of Salah El-din. The Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha was breathtaking, both inside and out. The views of Cairo from the citadel were spectacular too. The afternoon in Old Cairo was fascinating. Walking the same streets as the Holy Family was deeply moving. The Church of Abu Serga, built over the cave where they sought refuge, felt truly special. We also explored the Hanging Church, which was beautiful and unique. St. Barbara's Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue offered insights into Egypt's diverse religious history. Our guide was excellent, providing context and stories that brought each site to life. They answered all our questions patiently and made sure we were comfortable throughout the day. This tour offers a perfect mix of ancient history, religious significance, and cultural exploration. It's ideal for anyone interested in Egypt's rich past and diverse heritage. I highly recommend it for a comprehensive and engaging Cairo experience.
