Information about the new Egyptian Museum
The Grand Egyptian Museum preserves the history of ancient Egypt spanning over seven thousand years, and is uniquely located at the threshold of the past and the present. The new museum is located near the timeless wonders, the Pyramids of Giza. The museum houses many artifacts, about 3,500 of which belong to the famous King Tutankhamun. The design of the Grand Egyptian Museum was reached as a result of an international architectural competition launched by the Ministry of Culture. The competition was sponsored by UNESCO and supervised by the UIA. The museum is considered a major global center for Pharaonic history and a center for Egyptology.
The museum is located in Giza, a project that has been in the works for many years, and was scheduled to open in 2011. New Egyptian Museum Building
In the area between the Nile Valley and the Giza Plateau, the new Egyptian Museum was built at a height of 49 meters. This huge building consists of main exhibition halls, sculptured gardens, and upon entering the museum there is a huge statue of Ramses II, and in the middle of the lobby there will be a large staircase leading to the different sections of the museum. The museum has many tall glass windows overlooking the pyramids, and for children there will be a separate children’s museum, which will use the latest visual technology to explain the landmarks of ancient Egypt to children.
